Awards let you nominate candidates for the top hairstyles of the year
in more than 15 different categories, then vote on the winners.
After seven weeks of open nominations and about nine weeks of voting, the 2015 Crown Award winners during a live chat 10 March. Thanks to all of you who voted, and congratulations to all our winners!
BEST SHORT HAIR: Erin Buchanan and Dylan Dreyer (tie).
For the second year in a row, this top category has two women at the top! A TV news reporter in Shreveport, Louisiana shares the title with an NBC meteorologist.
Buchanan and Dreyer 30 percent each; Bethany Joy Lenz 24%, Sarah Hyland 10%, Rachel Bloom 6%.
BEST LONG HAIR: Samantha Ponder.
An ESPN reporter ends a tennis player's three-year run, to bring this top title back to cable sports.
Ponder 47 percent, Victoria Azarenka 20%, Selena Gomez 14%, Casey Batchelor 11%, Priyanka Chopra 7%.
BEST CURLS: Jaymee Sire.
She tweeted she's “got no shot with this,” but the ESPN morning host merely may have inspired fans to prove her wrong. The “Worldwide Leader” wins its first curl Crown.
Sire 42 percent, Alyson Footer 28%, Andy Allo 14%, Misty Mills 12%, Lara Jean Chorostecki 4%.
BEST BANGS: Noel Wells.
An actress in the Netflix comedy Master of None is crowned our new Bang-Master, gaining more votes than the two New Girl stars combined.
Wells 47 percent, Hannah Simone 21%, Zooey Deschanel 18%, Jess Walton 8%, Constance Zimmer 7%.
BEST HAIRSTYLE ON TELEVISION: Alison Brie.
First with Community and later with Teachers, a comedy favorite takes the TV title for the second year in a row. Two Hair Fan's Hall of Fame members were left far behind.
Brie 37 percent, Priyanka Chopra 31%, Debra Messing 13%, Connie Britton 10%, Gina Rodriguez 7%.
BEST HAIRSTYLE IN A MOVIE: Alison Brie.
No one has ever won a “TV-Movie” Crown double before – but this actress does it for the largely-forgotten film Get Hard. She left Pitch Perfect hair in second place, with the highest percentage of any winner.
Brie 47 percent, Anna Kendrick 24%, Amanda Seyfried 8%, Sanaa Lathan 6%, Lea Seydoux 6%.
BEST HAIRSTYLE IN MUSIC: Nicola Roberts.
She once sang with the pop group Girls Aloud. Now she makes a loud statement for British styles and being in her words “the only ginger in the village,” by upsetting a singer with a big hair contract.
Roberts 32 percent, Selena Gomez 30%, Orianthi 19%, Kimberly Perry 17%, Rebecca Pidgeon 2%.
BEST HAIRSTYLE IN ATHLETICS: Alex Morgan.
A star with the U.S. Women's World Cup team came from behind, to bring this Crown to the soccer pitch for the first time since 2004.
Morgan 34 percent, Victoria Azarenka 29%, Dylan Gonzalez 22%, Mandy Leon 12%, Michelle Wie 3%.
NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: Priyanka Chopra.
The star of Quantico led all women with four nominations. She must settle for this one – yet she becomes the first-ever “Bollywood” Crown winner.
Chopra 44 percent, Kristin Fisher 27%, Alicia Vikander 24%, Joyce Giraud 4%, Nikki Rouleau 2%.
BEST BLONDE: Samantha Ponder.
The ESPN correspondent wins a second Crown, and dominates the woman who had won it the prior two years.
Ponder 45 percent, Sara Eisen 19%, Alex Witt 18%, Victoria Azarenka 12%, Kim Sears 6%.
BEST BRUNETTE: Alison Brie.
Make it three for Brie – winning this Crown outright, after tying for it a year ago. The other woman in the tie dropped off sharply, to fifth place.
Brie 37 percent, Alice Greczyn 30%, Priyanka Chopra 15%, Selena Gomez 15%, Zooey Deschanel 3%.
BEST REDHEAD: Karen Gillan.
A serious cut in her hair didn't stop the Big Short actress. She came from behind in the final days of voting to win this Crown for the second year in a row.
Gillan 32 percent, Erin Buchanan 28%, Poppy Montgomery 26%, Bella Thorne 9%, Tana Amen 5%.
BEST HAIRSTYLE IN JOURNALISM: Betty Liu.
The Bloomberg TV anchor and author of Work Smarts showed plenty of long-hair brains, to dominate this category from opening to closing bell. “Liu's locks are sooo silky,” crooned one voter.
Liu 43 percent, Erin Burnett 18%, Kristen Fisher 17%, Norah O'Donnell 14%, Erin Buchanan 8%.
MAKEOVER OF THE YEAR: Rena Sofer.
An actress on The Bold and the Beautiful took care of both parts as far as Hair Fans were concerned -- growing out a short cut and edging a Modern Family star. “Some makeovers don't require shears,” a supporter pointed out.
Sofer 34 percent, Sarah Hyland 33%, Norah O'Donnell 23%, Bethany Joy Lenz 6%, Karen Gillan 5%.
BEST HAIR IN SCIENCE/METEOROLOGY: Kelly Cass.
Rumors of her departure from the Weather Channel apparently were exaggerated. But her hair quality is not, as she wins this Crown for the second time in three years.
Cass 44 percent, Kait Parker 33%, Jackie Guerrido 14%, Indra Petersons 9%.
BEST HAIR IN POLITICS/GOVERNMENT: Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.
She's a native of American Samoa, serves as a Major in the National Guard, represents Hawaii in Congress – and she becomes the first U.S. Democrat to win this award since 2008.
Gabbard 46 percent, Kathleen Kane 16%, Lisette Suder 10%, Cheri Bustos 6%, Kathleen Rice 6%.
BEST HAIRSTYLE IN SPORTS REPORTING: Jaymee Sire.
A promotion to SportsCenter: AM anchor during the voting may have helped this ESPN veteran win a second Crown. She defeated four other women who were on the ballot for a second consecutive year, and denied a co-worker a third award.
Sire 29 percent, Laura Okmin 25%, Samantha Ponder 23%, Rachel Nichols 13%, Cassidy Hubbarth 10%.
SUPER-HAIR WARS CHAMPION HAIRSTYLE OF THE YEAR: Brittany Adams.
A Canadian actress turned beauty blogger wowed voters with her impeccable long wavy hair. She won six matches on her way to the title, by an average margin of 84.8 percent!
