The 13th Annual Crown Awards

#CrownAwards

Weeks of open nominations and about two months of voting led to the announcement of 2012 Crown Award winners on Sunday, 10 March. Thanks to everyone who offered input -- and congratulations to this year's winners!

BEST SHORT HAIR: DIANNA AGRON.

The Glee star almost had hair too long to qualify. But bangs added in late 2012 helped her become the first back-to-back winner of this top-level Crown, earning praise from a voter for "bold steps" which "always pay off."

Agron 50 percent, "Stephanie" of Miami Dolphin cheerleaders 26%, Dana Perino 12%, Carmen Dominicci 10%, Rihanna 2%.

BEST LONG HAIR: VICTORIA AZARENKA

The Belarus athlete had a big 2012 in more than tennis. She becomes the first European to win this award, as the leader after Week 1 voting received almost no support near the end.

Azarenka 44 percent, Leeann Tweeden 20%, Natalie Eva Marie 18%, Shanelle Loraine 17%.

BEST CURLS: ALYSON FOOTER.

Unlike 2010, this time she's in no tangle at the top. The Houston-based reporter for MLB.com has not only "amazing curls" to one voter, but the highest percentage of any Crown winner this year.

Footer 73 percent, Kimberly Schlapman 17%, Susie Martin 7%, Daniela Ganoza 2%.

BEST BANGS: ZOOEY DESCHANEL.

Fox's New Girl wins the same honor her sister Emily earned two years before. In a contest we dubbed the "Battle of the Bangs" on Twitter, one of her lesser-known co-stars put up a strong challenge.

Deschanel 36 percent, Leeann Tweeden 27%, Hannah Simone 25%, Carly Rae Jepsen 12%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE ON TELEVISION: LEA MICHELE.

A second victory for the "Gleeks". While scoffers accused her of wearing extensions, her long hair lived up to her L'Oreal Paris endorsement.

Michele 46 percent, Connie Britton 26%, Kimberly Matula 25%, Rebeka Montoya 3%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN A MOVIE: AMY ADAMS.

Clint Eastwood may have had Trouble With the Curve, but the curving styles of his co-star had no trouble capturing this Crown.

Adams 65 percent, Mila Kunis 26%, Jennifer Lawrence 6%, Naomie Harris 2%, Kristen Stewart 2%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN MUSIC: LINDA EDER.

It came down to a clash of singers who have won this category a combined five times - and a Broadway star with "luscious" locks topped Nashville's best.

Eder 37 percent, Carrie Underwood 27%, Connie Britton 18%, Colbie Caillat 12%, Alanis Morissette 5%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN ATHLETICS: VICTORIA AZARENKA.

The Australian Open champion smashes her way to a second Crown, and becomes the first tennis player to win this award since 2001.

Azarenka 54%, Shanelle Loraine 22%, Eve Torres 18%, Alex Morgan 5%, Rosie Napravnik 1%.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: VICTORIA AZARENKA.

Make that "three-love" for the Belarus beauty. She rallied from behind with a strong final week, to win our closest contest of the year.

Azarenka 27 percent, Debby Ryan 24%, Shanelle Loraine 23%, Jessica Chastain 15%, Morgan Smith Goodwin 10%.

BEST BLONDE: ANNA GILLIGAN.

Her long hair might be the reason why Good Day New York had more viewers than Today in the Big Apple as we announced the winners. She may have been helped by a soap star cutting her hair during the voting.

Gilligan 35 percent, Laura Wright 32%, Martha MacCallum 21%, Jenny McCarthy 6%, Gerri Willis 5%.

BEST BRUNETTE: LEA MICHELE.

The Glee graduate grabs a second Crown, and becomes the first actress to win this award. "Lea is gorgeous and has beautiful hair," one voter wrote.

Michele 43 percent, Leeann Tweeden 23%, Shanelle Loraine 20%, Lori Rothman 9%, Jodi Marks 5%.

BEST REDHEAD: CONNIE BRITTON.

Despite a glowing New York Times Magazinearticle about her hair during the voting, this is the only award for the star of Nashville. A spokesperson for Wendy's restaurants was a rather surprising second.

Britton 42 percent, Morgan Smith Goodwin 20%, Amanda Righetti 17%, Jessica Chastain 9%, Anna Trebunskaya 9%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN JOURNALISM: JENNY ANCHONDO.

The 2011 Super-Hair Wars champion brings a second Crown in two years to WXIN-TV in Indianapolis. Her wavy sidepart was praised as "gorgeous hair."

Anchondo 44 percent, Abbie Boudreau 29%, Alisyn Camerota 14%, Lori Rothman 12%, Suzanne Malveaux 1%.

MAKEOVER OF THE YEAR: COURTNEY REAGAN.

A second makeover in as many years brings success to this CNBC journalist. "She looks amazing since growing her hair out," one supporter said.

Reagan 54 percent, Julie Chen 22%, Colleen Lopez 13%, Katie Couric 7%, Jane Velez-Mitchell 4%.

BEST HAIR IN WEATHER/SCIENCE: MARIA LaROSA.

The Weather Channel has dominated this category, but this is the first meteorologist to wear the Crown twice in a row. "So silky," explained one voter.

LaRosa 48 percent, Cristina Blackwell 28%, Alexandra Cranford 15%, Stephanie Abrams 8%, Janice Dean 2%.

BEST HAIR IN GOVERNMENT/POLITICS: Rep. MARSHA BLACKBURN.

The Tennessee Congresswoman makes history -- not only by winning this award two years in a row, but as the first Crown winner beyond age 60. A publicized style change by the U.S. First Lady during the voting didn't help her here.

Blackburn 55 percent, Michele Bachmann 29%, Nikki Haley 7%, Michelle Obama 5%, Teresa Tomlinson 4%.

BEST HAIR IN SPORTS REPORTING: LEEANN TWEEDEN.

The host of UFC Tonight on Fuel TV outfought a tough field to win her second Crown in a row. "Leeann by a hair," decided one voter over an award-winning runner-up.

Tweeden 52 percent, Erin Andrews 24%, Alex Flanagan 20%, Jenn Brown 4%.

SUPER-HAIR WARS CHAMPION HAIRSTYLE: VICTORIA AZARENKA.

A six-match undefeated run during 2012 means the tennis champion winds up with four Crowns, a feat only Bonnie Bernstein has accomplished before. She had an average winning margin of 74 percent!
