The 14th Annual Crown Awards

#CrownAwards

Super-Hair begins every year with its biggest annual event - your decision on the best hair of the past year! Your nominations took top priority in preparing our Crown Awards ballot, and now your votes have decided the winners.

The winners of the 2013 Crowns were announced in a live chat 13 March. We commend all of the nominees, and congratulate this year's wearers of Crowns!

BEST SHORT HAIR: JESSICA LITTLE.

This relatively-unknown actress seems to have one influential mother. She tweeted to her friends about the nomination, which sparked a flood of votes and a massive win.

Little 68 percent, Dylan Dreyer 17%, Kerstin Lindquist 7%, Portia de Rossi 5%, Carmen Dominicci 4%.

BEST LONG HAIR: VICTORIA AZARENKA.

The tennis star from Belarus jumped to an early lead, which helped her fight off a New Girl rally for her second top-level Crown in a row. "Vika's hair is awesome!" one voter wrote.

Azarenka 33 percent, Zooey Deschanel 29%, Shanelle Loraine 19%, Heather Cox 8%, Rina Chibany 6%, Bethenny Frankel 4%.

BEST CURLS: RACHELLE LEFEVRE.

"WOW" exclaimed one voter upon seeing this field. The Canadian actress appearing in Under the Dome led an international contest, topping two prior Crown winners.

Lefevre 48 percent, Alyson Footer 25%, Megan Nickles 13%, Daniela Ganoza 10%, Leona Lewis 4%.

BEST BANGS: ZOOEY DESCHANEL.

The New Girl is becoming an old favorite here -- winning this category for the second year in a row, and keeping it in the family (with her sister) three years out of four.

Deschanel 49 percent, Melissa Rauch 28%, Lea Michele 15%, Toni Collette 8%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE ON TELEVISION: ZOOEY DESCHANEL.

The Fox star captures a second Crown, overpowering the ABC star who won it a year before. A voter explained her hair "always looks soft and silky."

Deschanel 57 percent, Connie Britton 30%, Miller Gaffney 3%, Sarah Michele Gellar 3%, Naya Rivera 3%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN A MOVIE: AMY ADAMS.

She actually displayed several in American Hustle, showing why the late-1970's was a "golden age" of marvelous hair. She wins the movie Crown for the second year in a row, and has the highest percentage of any winner.

Adams 72 percent, Julia Louis-Dreyfus 18%, Jennifer Lawrence 6%, Evangeline Lilly 4%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN MUSIC: SHANIA TWAIN.

The country singer had a year of comebacks - with a Las Vegas show, and her first win of this category since 2005. She edged an Australian rock star at the wire.

Twain 40 percent, Orianthi Pangaris 39%, Selena Gomez 14%, Lea Michele 5%, Naya Rivera 3%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN ATHLETICS: VICTORIA AZARENKA.

A second Crown goes to "Vika," but her second consecutive win of this category wasn't easy. A College of Charleston cheerleader led her after one week of voting.

Azarenka 39 percent, Katie Johnson 34%, Shanelle Loraine 18%, AJ Lee 5%, Summer Rae 5%.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: KATHERINE McNAMARA.

The "Kitkats" came through for this star of Disney productions. One voter commented her long hair has the potential to win Crowns for years to come.

McNamara 44 percent, Kira Kosarin 27%, Michelle Asselin 15%, Summer Rae 8%, Naya Rivera 5%.

BEST NEW ORIGINAL STYLE: KERSTIN LINDQUIST.

A host on QVC sold Hair Fans on her short cut, with one declaring her "gorgeous." A winner of The Voice fell surprisingly flat.

Lindquist 67%, Dominique Rinderknecht 21%, Tessanne Chin 12%.

BEST BLONDE: VICTORIA AZARENKA.

We admittedly didn't think her hair was blonde enough to qualify for this category last year. Voters decided we were wrong, giving the tennis champion a third Crown.

Azarenka 39 percent, Michelle Asselin 32%, Alex Witt 13%, Lara Spencer 8%, Anna Gilligan 4%, Jody Lowery 3%.

BEST BRUNETTE: ZOOEY DESCHANEL.

The Fox actress wins a matching "triple Crown" of her own, denying another star at her network back-to-back wins.

Deschanel 51 percent, Lea Michele 16%, Shanelle Loraine 14%, Rina Chibany 10%, Sam Ryan 9%.

BEST REDHEAD: AMANDA RIGHETTI.

She's leaving The Mentalist on CBS, but her hair remains top-of-mind for Hair Fans. She wins this Crown for the third time in four years.

Righetti 38 percent, Rachelle Lefevre 29%, Heather Cox 16%, Connie Britton 11%, Emily Wilson 5%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN JOURNALISM: JODY LOWERY.

In another fight to the finish, thick blonde locks bring a Crown to KTBS-TV in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Lowery 38 percent, Betty Nguyen 37%, Alex Witt 14%, Deborah Norville 7%, Alison Kosik 4%.

MAKEOVER OF THE YEAR: CAROL COSTELLO.

By going longer and a bit blonder, this anchor did her part to keep viewers interested in CNN.

Costello 46 percent, Erica Hill 25%, Charissa Thompson 25%, Laura Wright 3%.

BEST HAIR IN SCIENCE/METEOROLOGY: KELLY CASS.

This appearance on NBC Nightly News in late December seemed like an audition for the Crown ballot. It sure did work.

Cass 42 percent, Dylan Dreyer 23%, Maria LaRosa 16%, Ginger Zee 11%, Maria Molina 7%.

BEST HAIR IN GOVERNMENT/POLITICS: JULIA BONK.

A member of Parliament in the province of Saxony was discovered by a Hair Fan, offered to us - and now becomes the first German to win a Crown.

Bonk 53 percent, Yulia Tymoshenko 35%, Marsha Blackburn 6%, Sara Latife Ruiz 4%, Kristi Noem 2%.

BEST HAIR IN SPORTS REPORTING: SUZY KOLBER.

The ESPN pro football host proved her hair at age 49 doesn't need to think about retirement. She wins her first Crown since 2007.

Kolber 42 percent, Heather Cox 15%, Allison Hayes 15%, Kristina Akra 13%, Rachel Nichols 13%.

SUPER-HAIR WARS CHAMPION HAIRSTYLE OF THE YEAR: LEA MICHELE.

After winning two Crowns the year before, the Glee star only wins one this year. But it's arguably the most competitive area, as she won six matches head-to-head including two tight playoff fights.
