The 6th Annual Crown Awards

After six weeks of open nominations and about two months of open online voting (including a few extra days due to a mistake on our part), the winners of the 2005 Crown Awards were announced LIVE online 12 March. Thanks to everyone who voted, and congratulations to all of our winners!

BEST SHORT HAIR -- KYRA PHILLIPS.

She's "Live From...." CNN Center every day, and keeps this award within the network. She especially won praise for her reddish color, which one voter compared to "a desert sunset."

Phillips 53%, Kit Hoover 15%, Shawn Killinger 13%, Nicole Richie 12%, Amanda Drury 7%.

BEST LONG HAIR -- SHANIA TWAIN.

Fans of the country-pop singer-saleswoman came through again, in a race which received nearly 850 votes. She wins this top-level award for the second year in a row.

Twain 54%, Bonnie Bernstein 29%, Elle McPherson 11%, Christi Paul 4%, Sumi Das 3%.

BEST CURLS -- PAULINA RUBIO.

There's a new "reina de rizos" (curl queen), and it's this Mexican singer. She left a four-time winner of this award with her worst showing ever, yet a news anchor won the most praise from voters for "perfect" curls.

Rubio 35%, Alison Stewart 27%, Debra Messing 22%, Maria Menounos 16%.

BEST BANGS - JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT.

It was time for a change here as well - as TV's Ghost Whisperer overcame the only woman ever to capture this Crown, and by a very wide margin.

Hewitt 43%, Courtney Thorne-Smith 28%, Susan McGinnis 14%, Shawn Killinger 10%, Ann Nyberg 5%.

BEST HAIR IN ATHLETICS -- JENNIE FINCH.

The second time up proved the winner, as this pro softball pitcher prevailed after falling short a year ago. The Indianapolis City League champion was an impressive runner-up.

Finch 35%, Meghan Howard 26%, Erica Blasberg 20%, Heather Mitts 18%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN A MOVIE -- JENNIFER ANISTON.

Rumor Has It that her film with that title flopped at the box office. But her famous locks remain a Hair Fan favorite, as she wins her first Crown since 2000.

Aniston 55%, Claire Danes 19%, Lindy Booth 11%, Rene Russo 8%, Nicole Kidman 6%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE ON TELEVISION - BONNIE BERNSTEIN.

Last year this contest was close, but not so this time. Not even the presence of a L'oreal hair model and bogus rumors about her departure from CBS Sports stopped her from a fourth consecutive Crown.

Bernstein 47%, Giada De Laurentiis 28%, Eva Longoria 14%, Mariska Hargitay 6%, Emily Procter 5%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN MUSIC - SHANIA TWAIN.

This race was close last year as well, but a 2004 British challenger was left singing the blues. Twain wins this award for the fourth year in a row, and with the highest percentage of any winner!

Twain 63%, Carrie Underwood 16%, Martina McBride 11%, Joss Stone 6%, Rachel Stevens 4%.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR - SAM RYAN.

Perhaps the best mid-season substitution in Monday Night Football history, the ABC Sports reporter outpointed the champion of American Idol.

Ryan 39%, Carrie Underwood 26%, Emily Deschanel 18%, Shawn Killinger 10%, Alyson Michalka 7%.

BEST BLONDE -- LINDA STOUFFER.

The CNN Headline News anchor has grown out this year-end style, but it was good enough for voters. An always-competitive category found some nominees faulted for their roots.

Stouffer 33%, Jennie Finch 24%, Bonnie Somerville 17%, Martha MacCallum 13%, Sam Ryan 12%.

BEST BRUNETTE - BONNIE BERNSTEIN.

"Bonniephiles" give their favorite a going-away gift from CBS Sports - her third award in this category in four years, and her 13th Crown overall. Anne Hathaway led one week of voting, but her supporters simply showed up too late.

Bernstein 45%, Hathaway 37%, Kate Beckinsale 9%, Salli Richardson 6%, Sharyn Alfonsi 3%.

BEST REDHEAD - ANGIE EVERHART.

"Full of rich color, full body, long, wavy and soft," was how one voter expressed admiration for this model. Some were so impressed that they rewrote Rolling Stones lyrics in her honor.

Everhart 33%, Khrystyne Haje 25%, Heidi Collins 15%, Kelly O'Donnell 14%, Liz Claman 13%.

BEST HAIRSTYLE IN JOURNALISM - ROBIN MEADE.

The closest contest of the year found the morning host at CNN Headline News dethroning a three-time winner.

Meade 44%, Bonnie Bernstein 40%, Sam Ryan 9%, Susan McGinnis 4%, Martha MacCallum 4%.

MAKEOVER OF THE YEAR - ROBIN MEADE.

Going longer with her style wins Meade a second Crown, matching Bernstein and Twain. "She is the most gorgeous lady on TV!" one voter declared.

Meade 56%, Faith Hill 30%, Brooke Burns 7%, Sharyn Alfonsi 6%, Marina Harrison 1%.

BEST HAIR IN SCIENCE/ METEOROLOGY - HEATHER TESCH.

For the first time, all five nominees came from the same place - and a Weather Channel showdown went to the 2003 winner. Said one voter: "a look that looks great on her consistently."

Tesch 38%, Kristin Dodd 21%, Hillary Andrews 20%, Jennifer Lopez 11%, Sharon Resultan 10%.

BEST HAIR IN GOVERNMENT/POLITICS - KATHERINE HARRIS.

This new category brought more complaints than any Crown Award contest ever. But voters settled on the Florida Congresswoman, over a San Francisco District Attorney with a similar name.

Katherine Harris 50%, Kamala Harris 27%, Cathy Cox 14%, Elaine Chao 8%, Caren Janssen 1%.

SUPER-HAIR WARS CHAMPION - KATHLEEN KENNEDY.

Joining her sister as a Crown winner, she's the first Champion Hairstyle of the Year with a loss on her record. But she avenged that loss in the semifinals, then won a tight final round to give CNN Headline News a fourth Crown Award for the year.
